Good Enough is a great realistic fiction book by Jen Petro-Roy. It is a life changing book and it is definitely worth reading.
Riley is a daughter of a great artist, her Mom, a sister of a great gymnast, Julia, and a daughter of an ordinary Dad. Riley wants to be skinny and pretty. She doesn’t eat, she runs every single day, and she cannot miss a single day of track practice. One day, her Mom takes her to the hospital because she is not eating and only exercising everyday. The hospital takes her in and they tell her that she has anorexia. At first, she struggles eating and wants to get out of the hospital as soon as she can and she starts to miss school and all of her friends. She wants to go back to track practice and lose weight again, but things change and she wants to get better.
I really enjoyed this book because I liked how I could see a person with anorexia's point of view. I especially liked the part where Riley says “Because tonight was so much fun!” because it shows that she is having fun and she is making friends at the hospital. Riley is my favorite character because she is really brave and she is really kind. I think the thing that Riley says to herself like “I’m going to do this. I am strong. Stronger. Strongest.” really feels like the author is saying it to me. The author did a really good job adding compliments that Riley says to herself because those compliments might save a life.
I recommend this book to people who have disabilities or people who just struggle with life because this book will give you confidence and it will also make you understand other people’s life. Also, for people who like diverse books, this is a book for you.
