Spin by Lamar Giles

When Paris Secord, aka DJ Parsec is found dead on her turntables, everyone is in shock, especially her friends Kya and Fuse. The police and detectives don’t seem to be working hard, and soon they don’t have any more leads. This leaves it up to Kya and Fuse to find out what happened. Kya and Fuse investigate at their school, and sometimes at each other's houses, but they have to avoid their crazy parents. They find a few leads, but they turn cold. Can Kya, Fuse, and the crazy ParSec fans find out what happened? Or will it forever be a mystery? Read the amazing book Spin to find out!

As soon as I picked up the book Spin, I couldn’t put it down! The crazy, continued action and the mystery that you solve as you read on hooks you in! It’s an amazing book, and I especially enjoyed the character Kya. She and Paris had gotten into a fight, but she still managed to work with Fuse and investigate the murder. I also really liked how I partly connected with the characters but not with the plot. That made it so I knew how they were feeling, but they were in a different situation than me so it made me learn. For example, someone would feel left out or something, and I would connect but it would be about something else so I can learn from it. One of my favorite parts about the book was how it switched perspectives. It had the perspectives of Fuse and Kya in the present time they were investigating, but it also went back before Paris died and showed it from her perspective. You found out information from Paris and you can make assumptions, and Kya and Fuse find out and make some assumptions too, and you are like a detective trying to figure out what happened. For example, it would be a new chapter called DJ ParSec/Paris and then it would say something like 16 months before. I really liked the change in perspective! Spin is a great book that I think everyone should read!

If you like the movie Knives Out, or if you like mystery books that can make you cry, you will love this book! I recommend this book to ages 10-14. You should definitely read Spin by Lamar Giles!
