Isle of Blood and Stone by Makiia Lucier

Eighteen years ago, Ulises' 2 older brothers who were princes were murdered. Elias's father, the Royal Navigator of St. John del Mar was also murdered in the same event. Now Elias is following the steps of his father. Mercedes is now hated for being half Mordragan because the Mordragran’s were blamed for the tragic event. So Mercedes is shown extreme disrespect as shown in this part of the book “An old woman stood just inside the ground level, partially concealed by the crimson bougainvillea cascading off an upper balcony. As Mercedes rode past, the woman spat, missing the horse’s rear hooves by a hand’s width.” Finding two artifacts the three friends are now questioning everything they learned about this tragic event.

Makiia Lucier does a great job showing the power of friendship in the Kingdom of St. John del Mar as the three friends work together to piece together this confusing puzzle.

This book is probably the best book I’ve ever read. Because of all the suspense building up as the plot plays out. Not only that but there is a lot of action like when Elias was ambushed. “Elias had time to see another shadow emerge before he heard a loud crack and his nose exploded with pain.” Also the perseverance of all the 3 of them to keep on going is really amazing like how Mercedes keeps on going even when she is hated and disrespected everywhere she goes! I definitely wouldn’t be able to keep on going after what they go through!

Overall I think this book was amazing and I would recommend this book to ages 12-15 since the book is a little bit hard to understand. I also think if you like the series Ranger’s Apprentice by John Flanagan you’ll really like this book!
